Jim Liked the Plan - But He Didn’t Think He Needed It

Business owner looking at screen and panicking

Jim owned a successful business in Sacramento. He knew his customers, took pride in his work and depended on his computers to keep everything moving. When he met Mark Anthony Germanos, Jim liked him and felt comfortable discussing his business. Mark proposed setting up backups, developing a disaster recovery plan and correcting weaknesses in the network.

Jim liked the proposal, but he didn’t act on it. “Who would bother hacking my business?” he thought. “I’m not some big corporation.” There was always something more urgent to pay for, so the proposal stayed on his desk. Jim convinced himself he could take care of it later.

Then ransomware hit his network and made his computers unusable. Jim lost access to the data his business needed to operate. His staff couldn’t work normally, customers were waiting and every hour brought more disruption. The hackers left a demand: pay a ransom to regain access.

Jim called Mark in a panic. The proposal he had postponed was suddenly the plan he wished he had followed. Without usable backups, he found himself negotiating with the hackers over how much money to send the people who had shut down his business. Then he discovered his insurance did not cover the ransom. Whatever he agreed to pay would come out of his own pocket.

Had Jim followed Mark’s proposal and maintained usable backups, his pain could have been minimal by comparison. He would have had a recovery plan and a way to restore his data without depending on the hackers. There would still have been disruption and recovery work, but he would have had a practical path forward. Instead, he faced mounting pressure with few options.

He liked Mark and liked the plan, but Jim believed hackers wouldn’t find him. Don’t wait until your computers stop working to decide how you’ll recover. Talk with Mark about backups, network security and disaster recovery planning while you still have time to prepare.

This is a composite of some people who have asked for help, too late.

A Serious Plan to Get Back in Business

You’re running a business. A system failure can turn an ordinary workday into a scramble. Work stops, questions pile up, and your next move matters. Prepare before that moment arrives with Cyber Safety Net x360 Recover.

Our solution creates system image backups, updates them daily and saves them to the cloud. Your backups stay off-site, not on a backup device sitting beside the computer you need to recover. That gives your business a recovery resource stored away from your office and refreshed every day.

Disaster recovery should not begin with prayer or a frantic search for options after something goes wrong. It should begin with preparation: backups in place, a recovery plan and a clear understanding of which systems need to come back first.

A vCISO brings in disaster recovery solutions that keep your business in business after a disaster.

Cyber Safety Net x360 Recover provides the backup foundation for that approach. No promises of instant recovery or uninterrupted operations, just a practical solution built around system image backups, daily updates and off-site cloud storage.

Your business deserves more than a last-minute scramble when technology fails. Make recovery part of your plan before you need it. Contact Cyber Safety Net to discuss how x360 Recover can support your business’s disaster recovery strategy.
