ChatGPT's Footer
In a recent ChatGPT session, I noticed the footer "Don't share sensitive info. Chats may be reviewed and used to train our models. Learn more." Not sure if they recently added it, or if our ChatGPT friends have put that there from the beginning. Regardless, I am writing about sharing sensitive information in AI prompts today. My example is of ChatGPT but I feel this advice applies to all AI interactions.
Why You Should Keep Personal Info Out of ChatGPT, and All AI Engines
When using ChatGPT or any AI engine, it's important to be careful about what information you share. You should avoid putting personal details or health information in your prompts. This helps protect your privacy and keeps sensitive data safe. ChatGPT uses the information ... Read More
Similar AI Prompts Create Different Results - This Will Confuse Plagiarism Checkers
Plagiarism checkers thwarted. I asked an AI engine to generate content yesterday. One small change in my prompt created a result with a vastly different result, tone and verbiage. Armed with this knowledge, I am arguing plagiarism checkers will not generate consistent results on AI-generated content.
My client has all users logging into their Windows 11 workstations with the same password. Danger, Danger, Danger, I know. I asked perplexity to generate content I can share with the client, promoting creating user-specific passwords.
My first prompt was
“why should a company with 5 computer users have unique passwords for each user and in under 300 words and include bullet points and in a friendly tone and written from ... Read More

Three Mile Island: From Meltdown to Microsoft's AI Power Play
Remember Three Mile Island? That nuclear plant south of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania that gave us all a scare back in 1979? Well, it's making a comeback, and this time it's got Microsoft muscle (and money) in its corner.
A Brief History Lesson
Three Mile Island was home to two nuclear reactors. In March 1979, Unit 2 suffered a partial meltdown, causing the worst commercial nuclear accident in U.S. history. While Unit 1 kept chugging along, it eventually closed in 2019 due to economic pressures. Producing electricity there was more expensive than other providers using cheaper natural gas.
New Owner, New Expectations
Constellation Energy now owns three Mile Island. That's not the only nuclear power plant Constellation owns. Here's a partial list:

Intellectual property is still relevant
Last week, I argued intellectual property was no longer relevant. This week, I argue the opposite. Despite the challenges posed by artificial intelligence, intellectual property (IP) rights continue to play a crucial role in fostering innovation and protecting creative works. In case you've already read, https://cybersafetynet.net/does-intellectual-property-still-exist-with-artificial-intelligence-generating-content-no/, fasten your seat belt. I am making the opposite argument here.
Human creativity remains central
While AI can generate content, human creativity and ingenuity are still at the core of innovation. Humans design, develop, and refine AI systems, making critical decisions about their architecture, training data, and application. The creative process often involves human-AI collaboration, where AI serves as a tool to augment human capabilities rather than replace them entirely. Therefore, traditional intellectual property protections remain relevant ... Read More

Traditional intellectual property thinking no longer applies
In the era of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence, the concept of intellectual property (IP) faces unprecedented challenges. As AI systems become increasingly capable of generating creative works and innovations, the traditional notions of IP become obsolete.
Here are three reasons why I think intellectual property no longer exists in its current form in the AI era:
Blurred lines of authorship and inventorship in intellectual property
AI systems can now create content and develop solutions that rival human-generated works. This capability blurs the lines between human and machine-generated content, creating significant challenges to traditional concepts of authorship and inventorship. When an AI system creates a piece of art or develops a new formula, determining ownership becomes complex. Is it the AI itself, the ... Read More

Oprah to interview AI greats on September 12
Oprah Winfrey will be discussing Artificial Intelligence with Bill Gates and Sam Altman later this month. AI and the Future of Us airs on ABC on September 12, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET. See Oprah Interview for more. In case you’re wondering, they will explore AI’s impact on our lives. If you were writing Oprah’s questions, what would you ask?
Need some prompts?
Here are the questions perplexity suggested. These began at a 6th-grade reading level before I polished them:
How do you think robots and computers will change our everyday lives in the next 10 years?
What are some big problems that companies developing AI face, and how are they fixing them?
Can you tell us about a time when ... Read More

Let follow-ups strengthen your AI embrace
Anybody looking at AI (Artificial Intelligence) and asking: “How can it make my life easier?” Here’s something built into AI that can help: Follow-ups. You can ask your favorite AI engine a question then write a follow-up to give you a more concise answer. Here's how.
I am using Perplexity Pro, available at https://perplexity.ai. Here’s my first prompting example: “How much water should a 50-year-old man drink each day?” Perplexity answers with:
For a 50-year-old man, the general recommendation for daily water intake is about 15.5 cups, which is equivalent to approximately 3.7 liters or 125 ounces of fluids per day. This guideline includes all fluids consumed, not just plain water. About 20% of this fluid intake typically comes from food, with ... Read More

Fake reviews waste time and money
Earlier this month, the US Federal Trade Commission banned fake reviews. FTC Chair Linda M Khan reported: “Fake reviews not only waste people’s time and money, but also pollute the marketplace and divert business away from honest competitors. By strengthening the FTC’s toolkit to fight deceptive advertising, the final rule will protect Americans from getting cheated, put businesses that unlawfully game the system on notice, and promote markets that are fair, honest, and competitive.”
In real-world terms, advertisers cannot buy fake reviews to help promote a movie. This includes both positive and negative reviews. But wait there’s more. This also includes reviews and testimonials from someone that does not exist. You guessed it, I am talking about AI here. The FTC ... Read More

AI Disclosure necessity
I added a global AI disclosure to my website. You should too. My disclosure is
Some content here is generated by AI. The views expressed are the author's opinion and not legal advice. The author is not a lawyer. You are an adult and responsible for anything you do.
Why you should disclose AI usage too
As a content creator (we are all content creators, BTW), you might be wondering why you should include AI disclosure statements in anything you publish. Here are five reasons:
Build Trust and Transparency. With an open AI disclosure, you build trust with your audience. When you inform them that some content comes from AI, you demonstrate transparency in your creative process, which strengthens your relationship with readers.
Embrace Ethical Responsibility. Open ... Read More
